The port of Tianjin has commenced container sea rail intermodal service to the northwestern city of Xian with the launch of a new box train service, according to reports. Each train will have 50 cars able to carry 100 TEUs, will cover 1,200 kilometer and take three days to make the trip. Containers will be provided to the shippers by the port, so that they do not have to the shippers by the port, so that they do not have to worry about finding boxes for their cargo.
Including Xian, the Port of Tianjin has launched container sea-rail intermodal services to more than 10 cities, including Chengdu, Taiyuan, Urumqi, Baotou, Shizuishan, Erenhot, Alashankou and Manzhouli.
The port moved 143,000 TEUs via sea-rail intermodal during the first three quarters of this year. A total of 46,000 TEUs were carried on the service to Alashankou and Manzhouli then transited to European destinations, 43 per cent more than the volume recorded in the same period a year ago.
